Lidström, John (1957)
Compositor Sueco nacido en Södertälje
Bio
Born in Södertälje on the 27th March, 1957. From 1974 to 1981 his studies in music theory were supervised by the Polish composer Ziemit Bownik. He studied conducting with Gustaf Sjökvist from 1980 to 1987, counterpoint with Lars-Erik Rosell from 1981 to 1983 and arranging and composition at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm from 1983 to 1985. In the late 80s Lidström also studied music aesthetics with Bo Wallner. Other important influences during his years in Stockholm were Daniel Börtz, P-G Alldahl, Hans Eklund, Bengt-Arne Wallin and Eskil Hemberg.
During the 80s and 90s Lidström has worked as a church musician, music teacher, music reviewer and lecturer. Modern poetry and new translations of the New Testament and the Psalms are often a starting-point for his compositions, where the tonal material is organised in series.
Lidström has been a member of the Society of Swedish Composers (FST) since 1994.
